Medicine cites that 36% of adults in the U.S. are using some form of on-
going complementary or alternative medicine (CAM); and when
megavitamin therapy and prayer are included for health reasons, the
number jumps to 62%. The survey found that most people use CAM with
conventional medicine (complementary) as opposed to replacing
conventional medicine (alternative).
That's good news for people seeking relief from ailments that
conventional medicine may not be treating totally or satisfactorily.
Massage therapies are becoming main stream, as massage practices are
joined with other health practitioners, like Chiropractors, Physical
Therapists, medical doctors and surgeons. Types of CAMs, like Reiki and
Reconnective Healing, involve the use of energy fields, the electro-
magnetic fields or biofields that surround and penetrate the human body.
Reiki, for example, is a Japanese technique for relaxation and stress
reduction that promotes healing on all levels: mind, body, and spirit. It
draws upon universal life force energies that are directed by the wisdom
and love of the Higher Power. It is based on science and the growing
understanding we have of our physical/mental/emotional world. It is not a
religion and has nothing to do with religion. It does, however, have
everything to do with spirituality and your own personal growth and
wellbeing.

Complementary and Alternative Medicine
Thankfully, the use of Complementary and Alternative medicine is alive
and well in the United States. Some healing modalities, such as energy
